I’ve been coming to the Map Room at the Royal Geographical Society for ten years - but this time it’s different. This time I’m here as a Fellow. Seeing Shackleton, Edward Hilary and Tenzing Norgay on the walls, I wonder what frontiers of exploration remain. I also reflect on where I fit, what I’ve contributed and still have to contribute to building an understanding of our world.

Where is the line between using technology to improve our lives and outsourcing our existence. Scheduling reminders to take a screen break? Monitoring our activity through wearable technology? What about a beautiful desktop background image of a forest?
